Dec 20, 2018
The Massachusetts Conference for Women was held in Boston on Dec 11th and 12th. It’s the 15th year the event has been held in Boston and it has become extremely popular, selling out with over 11,000 people attending. The goal of the conference is to offer inspiration, motivation, networking, personal & professional development, and community.
I was lucky enough to attend the opening night and see a couple of great speakers.
Elizabeth Gilbert – Author
Elizabeth spoke about getting over the idea that you are too busy to spend time on things that will ultimately get you to the life you want to live. Telling us to give up thinking everything is an obligation and to instead dedicate time to projects or work that get you where you want to go.
Franchesca Ramsey – Activist
Franchesca is an comedian and activist, gaining fame with her hilarious / social commentary videos. Franchesca spoke about trying to understand our privilege and advocating for others.
Aly Raisman – Olympian
Aly spoke about speaking out against Larry Nassar, and how everyone should speak their truth.
Learnings
Overall the main thing I took out of the day is that there is a massive community of women working to support and promote each other. Having diversity and different voices at the table is something that companies across the board are really starting to take seriously, which can only mean good things.
At Plastiq we are lucky to have a very diverse team; 67% of our Engineering team are women or minorities.
