Plastiq Engineering Open House 10/30/2018

We recently ran an Open House event at our office in San Francisco. We had a great turn out from the local developer community and had a bunch of really enjoyable conversations. To recap why we do this – we love talking Engineering at Plastiq. When we are at the office we are typically heads-down working on cool new features for Plastiq, but we do like to take a break once in a while, inviting Engineers to come by and visit our offices. We welcome Engineers from around the bay area to come along, take a tour of our office space, listen to a technology talk, meet members of our Engineering team and enjoy some free beer, wine and pizza (not necessarily in that order).
The presentation topic for this event was Career Paths for Engineers, an elaboration on the discussion we started in early October with the blog post Career Paths for Engineers which received a lot of positive comment and discussion on LinkedIn.
In the presentation I shared my own experience moving from an Individual Contributor role to a manager of Engineers to a manager of managers. I have learned a lot of lessons along the way and enjoyed sharing them with the attendees. Towards the end of the presentation I shared my approach in identifying potential managers. We had a fun segment of the presentation where we showed a list of job titles for an unidentified company and asked the audience to guess the company (for a prize!).
We really enjoyed hosting everyone at our office and look forward to hosting our next Open House in early 2019! You can find more photos from the event on our Facebook page.
