Dear Customers, Friends, and Community,

No doubt you have received many updates and messages from companies, services and subscriptions, many important reminders on how to navigate these uncertain times. As a small business owner myself, I’m reaching out to empathize with you, share how we are truly feeling at Plastiq, and what we are doing to help us all get through this together.

We’re clear on the fact that small businesses form the very backbone of the global economy. Our very way of living runs on the lifeblood of small businesses — that’s where we work, shop, play, and form community. But hour by hour, all of that has come to an uncertain and unyielding halt, en masse.

I woke up this morning full of questions and ideas — about all of our customers, our employees, about my own friends and family, and the community around us. I’d be lying if I didn’t say all of this created some nervousness and anxiety. I think it would be unwise for anyone to not be at least reflective in these unprecedented times. These are waters previously uncharted.

But then I realized something simple but important: Small business owners, and all those who support them, are the very ones who have always forged the paths others felt could not be created. Entrepreneurs like us and you have always been the first to take the plunge and the last to survive through times of uncertainty. If there is one thing I’ve learned in listening to and working with small business owners, it is that we are resilient and resourceful. Adaptability is built into our DNA.

So, here at Plastiq, we remain resolved and resilient in the face of uncertainty. Amidst things we can’t predict, we’re focused on what we can control:

  • We can ensure our employees are kept healthy and supported so they can work effectively to keep our efforts going for the broader community.
  • We can and will meet your needs. We are unwaveringly open for business, and we are here for the long haul. We will continue to make your payments and get you paid through Plastiq, as normal.
  • We can help provide you with up-to-date information on what you can do to weather this storm. We’re in the midst of launching a small business Resource Center to that effect.
  • We can continue to support local businesses facing hard times, whether through donating our upcoming government checks (which I plan to do), or still ordering food from local restaurants to go.

The very reason Plastiq exists is because we believe every business owner has potential, and we want to help them reach it. Amidst what seems to be a challenging and no doubt confusing time, we know that your potential has not changed, and nor has our mission to serve it.

Life still goes on, and so does business. It must and it will. That is my belief. You can still stay in touch with those that matter, even if it’s more virtual than before. You can still celebrate a birthday, and you should. You can still dream about how your business will continue to grow once this passes, and it will pass. And we will be here for you, as we are today.

My very best to you and your family,

Eliot Buchanan Co-Founder & CEO, Plastiq
