Tell us a little about yourself.

I started working at Plastiq in November of last year and my work background is mostly in frontend development. As clich√© as it sounds, when I’m not working I enjoy traveling, mostly because I like to eat and drink. I also enjoy all the outdoor activities the Bay Area and California have to offer – whether it be camping, hiking, skiing, or cycling.

What do you do at Plastiq?

I’m on the engineering team. In any given day I’m adding features, fixing bugs, writing tests, or messing up stylesheets.

How did you first get into Software Engineering?

I was an indoor kid growing up and was always in front of my computer. I started programming and building websites in middle school, and I don’t think it was a conscious choice to start, more of just something that happened.

What brought you to Plastiq?

I’ve read about and used Plastiq before I joined the company to pay rent and some¬†uh, fines for some minor traffic violations. When I was looking for my next opportunity and saw they were hiring, I thought it would be awesome to work for a company with a product that I would actually use. I reached out directly and was set up with an interview a few days later.

What’s an interesting problem you have worked on at Plastiq?

I’m still fairly new to the team, but the project I’ve been working on relates to the business logic and workflow surrounding invoices. It’s been a great place to start since I get to touch all parts of our codebase, and has been really helpful getting me up to speed and familiar with the codebase.

How would you describe Plastiq’s engineering team?

Tight and yet very independent. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the product and technologies we use, and engineers are able to grow and explore different technologies and focus on what interests them.

Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy being around people who are smart and willing to debate the pros and cons of their methodology. I’m not afraid to admit when I don’t know something, nor does anyone claim to know all the answers.

Rapid Fire Round

What would you do if you weren’t working in engineering?

Something that gets me out more. Park ranger. Travel blogger. Instagram model.

When it comes to flying, how early do you like to arrive at the airport?

Depends on how good the airport lounge is.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m allergic to avocados, which living in California, is really not that much fun.

What’s your favorite ’90s jam?

4 Non Blondes – What’s Up?

Dogs or Cats?

Dogs

Beer or wine?

I don’t like playing favorites.
